Some useful windows commands

1. systeminfo

displays following details
  • host name
  • OS type & version
  • product ID
  • install date
  • up time
  • processor & memory info
2. ipconfig
  • ipconfig /all displays all network settings
  • ipconfig /displaydns displays local dns cache
  • ipconfig /flushdns flushes local dns cache
3. tasklist & taskkill

tasklist & tasklist /v displays running processes with following details.
  • Image Name                   
  • PID
  • Session Name      
  • Session#  
  • Mem Usage
  • Status        
  • User Name                                            
  • CPU Time
  • Window Title
taskkill can be used to kill processes using process name or PID
  • taskkil /im notepad.exe
  • taskkill /pid 1532
4. netstat

netstat /abnov command displays all network connections with following details.
  • Protocol
  • Local Address        
  • Foreign Address      
  • Connection State         
  • PID
  • Process Name
5. doskey
  • doskey /history shows command line history
  • doskey /listsize=100 sets size of command history buffer to 100
6. net user user_name
  • net user user_name displays information related to that user
  • net user user_name * resets user password
